The philosophy and psychology of Transformation provide an effective and efficient solution to the devastating and lethal consequences of addictive behavior.  The myth of substances and a diseased brain as being the cause of addiction is slowly being brought into the light, and the truth revealed. The problem of drug and alcohol addiction, as well as all the other addictive behaviors, does not have a physiological origin but rather a psychological one, the source of the malady being cognitive in nature.

It is true that awareness of and concern for the substances is important.  Using drugs and alcohol can and does eventually lead to death.  But we must remember that drugs and alcohol are merely the instruments that a person utilizes to commit suicide.  Using drugs and alcohol is part of the symptoms of addictive behavior; the primary goal, intention or purpose of such behavior is the eventual death of the individual. The key to adequately understanding the true cause of addictive behavior is to grasp why death is the primary objective of drug and alcohol addiction.

As we know, all behavior is driven by belief.  What we think and believe affects the structure and intention of our behavior.  What I do and how I act toward people, places, and things is determined by my thinking, by the thoughts and beliefs that I created, especially those that I have about myself, which is referred to as a person’s self-image.  My self-image is the foundation of all my behavior, even and especially towards myself. If I do not think that I matter, that I am not good enough, not enough, inadequate, damaged, broken, worthless or some other negative belief that I have created about my identity, my behavior will be in alignment with that type of cognition. The higher my self-negativity, especially with self hatred, the less likely I am to value my existence and more likely I will want to cease to exist.
