My Therapeutic Relaxation Music

My name is Dr. Harry Henshaw.  I am a licensed psychotherapist and musician.  As a child, I received 11 years of piano training.  In addition to having graduated from Boston University with a doctoral degree in Human Development and Counseling and being licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida for the past forty years, I have created and utilize therapeutic relaxation music in my counseling and treatment practice.

I want to introduce you to my therapeutic relaxation music and share with you how you can incorporate it into your daily routine.  My therapeutic relaxation music was created and designed primarily to help the people I work with in counseling sessions and in treatment settings to reduce their anxiety and stress.  When a person experiences a deep state of relaxation, resulting in reduced anxiety and stress, they tend to make better decisions for themselves and their life regardless of what they are working on in their life.

The Structure of My Therapeutic Relaxation Music

As a musician, I have created my therapeutic relaxation music recordings to help you experience a deep state of relaxation and reduce your anxiety and stress. When you can achieve a deep state of relaxation, you can heal more quickly and effectively, both physically and psychologically.  Some of the important characteristics of my therapeutic relaxation music are as follows:

  1. Sustained chords or voices with repeating musician patterns for enhancing the relaxation response of your mind and body. The repetitive nature of my therapeutic relaxing music enhances the relaxation response and supports the healing process.
  1. Use of binaural beats to further enhance and deepen your relaxation. When binaural beats, also known as brainwave entrainment, are combined with therapeutic music, individuals can experience an even deeper state of relaxation.
  1. Relaxation music blended with natural sounds, a soothing stream, and the gentle sounds of the ocean. The sounds of nature will enhance your ability to relax and further stimulate the healing process.
  1. A brief guided introduction to the therapeutic relaxation music enhances the relaxation response from the music. When a brief guided introduction is used in conjunction with therapeutic music, the individual’s sense of relaxation is deepened.

How to Listen for Maximum Benefit

Listening to my therapeutic relaxation and meditation music with intention can amplify its soothing effects.  Consider the following steps:

  1. Create a Safe Space: Select a quiet, comfortable area where you can unwind without distractions.
  1. Set Your Posture:  Sit or lie down in a comfortable position.  Support your body with cushions or a soft blanket to provide extra comfort.
  1. Breathe with Awareness: Take slow, deep breaths through the nose. As you listen to the relaxation music, let each exhale release tension from your body.
  2. Focus on the Sound: Let the relaxation music serve as your anchor.  Listen closely to its layers, textures, and subtle nuances. As you listen to the relaxation music, allow yourself to become increasingly relaxed and immersed in a deeper state of relaxation.
  1. Allow Stillness:  Do not force a response.  Just let yourself be, allowing whatever arises to do so gently.
  1. Use Headphones: For deeper immersion, especially when listening to binaural beats, high-quality headphones are highly recommended.
  1. Combine with Ritual: Light a candle, use essential oils, or dim the lights to deepen your relaxation experience.
  1. Stay Present: If your thoughts wander, gently bring your awareness back to the sound of the relaxation music.

Whether you spend 10 minutes or an hour, the key is consistency and presence.  You can also start with a shorter amount of time and gradually increase your listening time as you feel more comfortable with the experience. Begin with 5 minutes and add a few minutes each time you relax with listening to the therapeutic relaxation music.

When to utilize my therapeutic relaxation music

  1. Morning Sessions: To set a peaceful, relaxed tone for the day.
  1. Evening Sessions: To wind down, release stress, and transition into a state of rest before sleep, consider listening to therapeutic relaxation music before going to bed.  I also offer therapeutic sleep music.
  1. During work: To enhance concentration, work productivity, and reduce stress related to work situations, you can utilize my therapeutic relaxation music during work.
  1. Meditation Sessions: My therapeutic relaxation music can be used to support and further enhance your meditation practice.  My music can also serve as the focal point of the meditative session itself.
  1. Positive Affirmation Sessions to Improve Confidence and Self-Esteem: When positive affirmations are mixed with my therapeutic relaxation music, the effectiveness of the positive affirmations is enhanced and strengthened.
